Natural Ways to Keep your Skin Healthy

by Patricia Bascunan

Every skin care routine requires an adequate water intake. Drinking water has proven positive effects on your overall health. Water is also a crucial part of maintaining your skin hydrated and healthy. If your skin is dry and dull, try increasing your intake of water as well as using a regular moisturizer. If you exercise a lot or live in dry climate, you may require more than the recommended 8 glasses of water per day. Limit your intake of caffeine and alcohol, which can leave you dehydrated. Regular exercise Exercise is vital to maintain your body in shape, but it's also wonderful for your skin. Cardiovascular exercise keeps nutrients circulating through your blood stream so that can repair and nourish your skin. Exercise regularly to help enhance the health and appearance of your skin. Also consume an equilibrated diet of fruits, whole grains, lean meat, vegetables and good fat to maintain your body and skin healthy.

Eat foods rich in essential fatty acids Essential fatty acids (EFA's) have a very important role in keeping a healthy skin. They reduce inflammation and support skin structure. Most Americans get plenty of Omega-6 (found in processed food, red meat and eggs) but not enough Omega-3 (found in cold water fish, such as salmon, sardines and tuna, as well as flaxseed and nuts). Try to include foods rich in Omega-3 into your regular diet.

Use healthy skin care products The skin is the body's main defender against toxins and germs. If your skin is healthy, then it's capable to provide better protection. It's important that you use caution when applying skin care and hair care solutions because most of them are not good for your skin. Detergents, petrochemicals, fragrances and other components can block pores, cause irritation and harm your skin. Look for cleansers, cosmetics, moisturizers, skin treatments and other skin care solutions identified as natural products, with botanical components rather than harsh chemicals.

Always wear sun protection The UV rays of the sun can produce fine lines, premature aging, age spots, wrinkles, discolorations and even skin cancer. Protect your skin with a sunscreen with SPF 15 or higher. If you are going to be in direct sunlight for a long period of time, wear a hat and sunglasses to defend your scalp and eyes as well.

Fight free radicals with antioxidants Free radicals result from the exposure to stressors, including the sun, pollution and smoke. Free radicals can produce inflammation and cellular damage to the collagen in the skin. Collagen is one of the main elements of the connective tissue that maintains skin wrinkle free and firm. Antioxidants can fight free radicals and their damage. Vitamins A, C, and E are antioxidants that are found in berries, brightly colored fruits, vegetables and some legumes.

By following these skincare tips, you can nourish, protect and heal your skin.

A new skin care product offers the chance to eliminate scars, blemishes and skin imperfections, while at the same time defends you skin and maintains its hydration.
