Overcome The Grip Of A Social Phobia Using Hypnotherapy

by Alan B. Densky, CH

Social phobia is one of the most common anxiety disorders in which a person is afraid of being in a social setting. A person with social phobia suffers from unbearable fear that impacts their personal and daily life.

People with social phobia are extremely self-conscious and concerned about what others may say or think about them. They are often afraid of voicing their opinions, out of fear that they might be judged or berated. People with social anxiety tend to look down on themselves or have low self-esteem. They are worried about being seen by others and find socializing to be very stressful.

A person with social anxieties may seem "shy," but in the case of a phobia, this is taken to extremes. For example, if you suffer from social phobia, you might hesitate to make a crucial call because you're nervous about talking on the phone. You dial the number, but you're so nervous that you "lock up" or forget what you wanted to talk about. Although it can happen to everyone sometimes, for someone with social phobia it may happen every single time, until they find it near impossible to make any phone calls.

Maybe it is the night before an important presentation at work and you find yourself unable to fall asleep. You hate the idea of being in front of a room with your boss and all your co-workers watching as you discuss a project or an idea. You can't help but feel extremely self-conscious and embarrassed. Even after the meeting, you continue overanalyzing everything you said and did. You are afraid that you embarrassed yourself in front of your co-workers by stuttering or saying something wrong.

Perhaps you would like to go to parties and meet new people, but you avoid social gatherings because you're nervous about meeting someone new. You find the crowds intimidating and the idea of meeting new people frightens you. You worry about saying the right thing, or that people will not like you. You might stay at home very often because you're too worried to go out. These are only a few of the ways social phobias can impact our lives.

Social phobias are irrational fears that can prevent you from achieving your career goals or enjoying life. But even people who realize their fears are irrational may not know how to rid themselves of their phobia. People with social anxiety disorder would like to be more outgoing and meet new people, but are really too afraid to do so. In spite of their conscious desires and best efforts, they can't control their fears because all phobias are rooted at the unconscious level of the mind. Ericksonian hypnotherapy and Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) techniques are the most effective phobia treatments because they resolve issues at the unconscious level.

It is often difficult for those afflicted with social anxiety to get help because they can be too afraid to see a counselor or open up about their condition. This is another reason why hypnosis programs are right for them. The programs promote a tranquil and confidence-boosting frame of mind in a private setting, without being intimidating or overwhelming.

The first stage in a good phobia program is stress relief. Hypnosis therapy is a powerful tool for relieving your stress and tension. At the moment when you are de-stressed, hypnosis techniques will foster positive ideas in your unconscious mind and eliminate your social phobia. NLP techniques will relieve your fears by specifically targeting the thought process that produces a phobia.

In conventional hypnosis, specially worded post-hypnotic suggestions are utilized to address every unique phobia. Unfortunately, people tend to resist being simply told what to do or think, so conventional hypnosis is not always effective. A phobia calls for the use of NLP and Ericksonian Hypnotherapy.

Ericksonian hypnosis techniques work better than conventional hypnosis because they use suggestions that aren't obvious to the conscious mind, instead of direct suggestions. These ideas are placed in conversation, in the form of stories and metaphors, to persuade the unconscious mind to follow a new line of thinking. For this reason, Ericksonian hypnosis is far more successful than conventional hypnosis therapy and much more difficult for the unconscious mind to resist.

A single program that uses Ericksonian hypnotherapy and NLP techniques can treat social phobia and any other phobia, in any person. This is because several techniques are combined to maximize their success rate. People are often in awe of the seemingly miraculous changes they can see using hypnosis. Ericksonian hypnotherapy and NLP are ideal tools to help boost your confidence and beat social anxiety so you may live your life to the fullest.
