Claustrophobia and Hypnosis
People with claustrophobia experience fears related to enclosed spaces or areas where it can be hard to exit quickly, such as elevators, airplanes or trains. Some people even get claustrophobic in MRI scanners. Because of their feelings, people with claustrophobia often try to stay away from closed-off areas. Sufferers also tend to sit close to exits or along the sides of a room, versus approaching the center. Claustrophobia sufferers frequently have panic attacks when they start to feel "trapped" or closed in. For many, being in a confined area is as alarming as the idea of being buried alive.
Suffering a panic attack in a crowded space can be a scary time for claustrophobic people and those near them. When a person's claustrophobia is triggered, they may suffer panic attacks, trouble breathing, physical illness, fainting, and other, often dramatic, responses. One can develop claustrophobia at any time or because of a traumatic incident, but its onset frequently occurs during childhood.
Claustrophobia is aggravated by various situations, which can be different from person to person. For example, some sufferers might only feel claustrophobic while on a lift, while others find that crowds trigger their condition. In any situation, claustrophobia and other phobias often have a negative impact on people's day-to-day lives and happiness. Phobia sufferers may become avoidant and enjoy a lower quality of life as they center their daily lives around their phobia.
For numerous people, the aspect of embarrassment over their fears is as debilitating as the the phobic condition itself. Many phobia sufferers realize that their feelings are overblown and irrational, but cannot seem to stop themselves from losing self-control. This is due to the fact that phobias arise from deep within the unconscious, which no amount of conscious effort can be fully effective in controlling. This poses a unique challenge to the control of phobias.
Claustrophobia is often cured with anti-anxiety medication or therapy. Hypnotherapy is an excellent, safe and non-invasive type of therapy with no harmful side effects. It works by targeting the deeply-rooted causes of fear in the unconscious to quickly cure a phobia. A program that has Ericksonian hypnotherapy techniques and Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) can be used to eliminate a phobia. This novel program uses a variety of techniques to help people fight their fears.
The first step in curing a phobia is helping the sufferer become calm and anxiety-free. Hypnosis therapy has long been used as a type of stress-relief therapy, to allow people to clear their minds and feel peaceful.
Conventional hypnosis has used direct, post-hypnotic suggestions to help relieve phobias. The problem with the direct suggestion is that the mind tends to resist being simply "told" what to do. Many people put up mental barricades to acceptance of suggestions. In modern days, men and women are especially likely to ignore direct suggestions since we are mostly independent minded people who question authority.
The essence of the hypnotic state is calm and focused relaxation. Once in the tranquil state, rather than using direct suggestions, an alternate approach known as systematic desensitization can help eliminate a phobia using visual cues.
Ericksonian hypnosis techniques use a more sophisticated approach than conventional hypnotherapy. It contains indirect suggestions hidden in captivating metaphors and stories to engage the unconscious and persuade it to adopt a better, phobia-free thought process. Due to the fact that indirect suggestions do not need to be adapted for a specific phobia like direct suggestions do, a single good Ericksonian hypnotherapy program can work to cure any phobia or even more than one phobia at a time.
NLP, Neuro-Linguistic Programming, is a modern type of therapy that many expert hypnotherapists have adopted. The most effective NLP technique for beating a phobia is known as the Visual - Kinesthetic Disassociation, also called V/K. The V/K is known as the one session phobia cure, and for good reason. Phobic or anxiety reactions (attacks) take place because traumatic experiences are associated with and triggered by mental imagery. With the V/K, the stressful experiences are disassociated from the mental imagery - often in one session, and the phobia is virtually eliminated.
People struggling with claustrophobia can get relief by using hypnosis. The use of Ericksonian hypnosis with NLP techniques can help anyone fight their phobias. Hypnotic therapy has helped many users feel secure and confident in situations where before, they would've suffered a breakdown. Hypnosis has provided incredible benefits for people with phobias and continues to improve lives all the time.
